NETWORKING

Pidgin actively sustains a network of practitioners across the region to create reciprocal employment opportunities within the media industries.

Women in the Directors Chair

PIDGIN Production was delighted to respond to popular demand by staging once again, ‘Women in the Director's Chair’.

The event took place on the 26 th June at the prestigious Blackburn House Centre for Women in Liverpool, and was attended by over 100 women across the age range. All competed to attend the exciting 'hands on' workshops on offer. These were in Production, Production management, Writing, Casting, Makeup, wigs & wardrobe, and were led by industry professionals. The 3 minute pitch, in which participants had the opportunity to pitch their idea to the panel & audience, was extremely entertaining and provided experience in this important aspect of filmmaking.

The judging panel was chaired by Ethne Brown, the popular Liverpool actor who kindly gave us her time away from her production of Stags & Hens, to participate in the event.    It also included other distinguished guests; Oscar winning actress  Cathy Tyson, who also ran a workshop;  Clair Poyers  director of Production for Granada Television,  Charlotte Riches Development Producer for  BBC's Radio Drama;  Jo Jones Banafish from Casting Management;  Henna Riaz, the  media  lawyer and Martell Martinez the Line Producer from Skill Set. Bea Freeman, the successful TV Film Producer was also on hand to field any questions..

The networking and discussion went on till late in the evening in the café bar. It was a tremendous day and from the feed back we know that the event was a great success.  Enquiries from women all over the region are already coming in requesting information about the next WIDC event!!

FESTIVAL DU FILM PANAFRICAN

Pidgin Production (via Bea Freeman) sat on the Jury of the 2007 Pan African Film Festival Cannes. It was a fantastic networking opportunity not only for Pidgin Productions but for all those individual and groups of cultural diverse filmmakers that are associated with Pidgin Productions Film Festival.

City of God

Pidgin Productions was proud to host the three day tour for the actor’s of the Oscar nominated film “City of God”,  arranged by the Action For Brazilian Children’s Trust.  The tour was the first of its kind outside of London.  They received a warm welcome with a red carpet reception at the Town Hall attended by Lord Mayor Cllr Frank Roderick.   The Lord Mayor stated, “The fact these acclaimed film stars are coming to Liverpool to work with our home grown talent is a great coup for the city.  It reaffirms the fact that Liverpool really is the Hollywood of the North.”

During their stay they were involved in workshops, discussions and film screenings and question and answer sessions.  They also took time to dance with our local Samba Band.  Pidgin Productions were excited that BAFTA winning director Fernando Meirelles chose Pidgin  and Liverpool to host the tour.  It was a unique opportunity for our budding filmmakers to learn from  one of the finest directors in the industry.

The actors made many friends here in Liverpool and students from University of Liverpool’s Latin American Department had the opportunity to brush up on their Portugese language skills.   The actors were also involved a friendly football game with local Liverpool youngsters .  It was a great networking and memorable occasion for all involved.
